Twelve and a Half Ounces of EMMY

That's right its a Friday publishing of LTF, I know wtf? Just let it happen. Its fall awards show season time so   naturally we need to award the most fashionable and shake an accusing finger at the ones who missed the mark. I watched Joan Rivers break this whole award show down and although I whole-heartedly agree and support the return of the gorgeous and talented Giuliana Rancic the show itself was pretty sub par and missed the mark in my book. And generally I couldn't agree less with Joan and crew. So here's really whats up. . . .

Leslie Mann killed it at the Emmy's this year. This bright orange/yellow was a big trend on the red carpet this year, and although I am not 100% sure why, its slightly fall-ish and on Mrs. Mann it works! First, of all this dress or anything like it has NEVER been done before, which is more difficult than it sounds so snaps for that Les. Although I am really liking the nude illusion top, sometimes this looks like lady of the night during the day (obvious fail), and sometimes it looks like your just trying too hard but this illusion top nicely contrasts the full skirted, bright bottom half. Finally, I think turquoise was a nice choice for the jewelry, unexpected and I am just a huge turquoise jewelry fan in general. Home girl finishes it off with a top knot, sign, sealed, delivered BEST DRESSED!

Next Cat Deeley's look at the Emmy's was really perfection. The bright tomato-y red color works great with her beautiful blonde hair and tanned skin tone. Also, let's talk about the origami draping of this dress is really on trend and done very well! In addition Cat is wearing this dress, the dress isn't wearing her. Finally, her jewelry is minimal, perfection and that CLUTCH! A clutch to die for! I find it a little hard to believe "So You Think You Can Dance?" was nominated for an Emmy, hence her attendance but I guess stranger things have happened? And truly this amazing dress and styling put everyone else to shame!

Finally, Heidi Klum what a cluster fuck. First thing girlfrand just broke up with long time love Seal, so she needed to look AMAZEBALLZ, instead I am afraid she really missed the mark. From top to bottom this dress looks like a sad blue impersonation of Marilyn Monroe's famous white dress. If you can manage to get over that element her boobs look saggy (one looks larger than the other?), the two slits are just too much skin and they run up her leg really too high. I personally blame Angelina Jolie, first she tries to make husband stealing look cool, next she thrusts her leg out everyone making ladies think that's how you land a winner like Brad Pitt, just NO! Come one Heidi, we know you can do better, just ask one of your project runway kids to design you something and style you better! Her hair and skin looks like a goddess but everything else is wrong!

Lemme Borrow that Scarf

As the weather cools and the leaves change my thoughts continue on fall fashion. Sure last time I addressed some of my new favorite things but let’s talk fall essentials.  True, the “essential-ness” of fall items depends where you live, for example you probably don’t need a hat and mittens in Malibu or Miami and likewise in Chicago or New York you probably won’t be rocking short sleeve sweaters or tissue tanks! Hence this blog may not apply to all, but to me fall essentials are boots, jackets and cold weather accessories (scarves, mittens, etc)! So here it goes . . . . . . .

Fall means boots weather your rocking equestrian, biker or booties every fashionista knows sneakers are only meant for the gym range. For me personally I have just really gotten into/accepted the bootie look. These boots are great because they are versatile, easy to get on and off and provide a fair amount more flexibility. That being said these boots do NOT go with everything or every look, wear accordingly. All that being said my favorite booties of the moment are DV by Dolce Vita’s Java ankle boot. Whether you chose the suede or leather doesn’t really matter these booties are the perfect height to tuck the bottom of your skinnies into or let your flares hang over. The buckle wrapping detail adds a bit of interest and luxury, while the heel is the perfect height for day or night. Plus, the stacked heel should be easy to walk around in and gives a much more causal feel than a stiletto.  You can purchase these bad boys at most department stores that carry DV or on endless.com for next day free shipping at $129.99 a pop!

Next I love a scarf, whether it’s for fall warmth or just a stylish statement. All Saints is an uber cool brand but their scarves in particular are pretty great, they offer a variety of colors, styles and my favorite the snood/infinity scarf! The particular scarf I picked was the statement scarf because when you lay it all out it’s like a huge ad for all saints and personally I am just into a good script. This scarf is also great because it’s not your typical solid or stripped scarf, so I dig it. You can purchase this item on the all saints website for $95!

Finally this hat from free people is pretty much IT! I love this hat because of its unique nature, the variation of thread color, the texture it creates, the variety of hidden bows and of course the lovely pom pom to top it all off. I am still partial to the beanie style because it’s just such a carefree style, it’s hard to mess it up. Plus, if you’re rocking a hat your probably covering up some subpar hair! I love a topper and this hat is no exception for $48 dollar hairs on freepeople.com!

Fall Into Style

My poor sweet little blog how I have neglected you! I know you all will forgive me because I have some major fall fashion to report on! Just recently I had a rather lengthy train ride (an hour to the destination and back) and decided to stock up on new fall magazines, with people style watch being the stand out by far! I always enjoy reading people style watch but some editions are thinner than others, the September issue did not disappoint being almost as thick as a textbook (score!). Undoubtedly this magazine will inspire blogs to come but today I want to discuss my top 3 must have items for this fall, so here it goes …..

First and foremost this maybe boring or repetitive by now but I love a tweed looking jacket. To me they are timeless, elegant, and go with practically everything and I am obsessed. This jacket by Generation Love is AMAZEBALLZ. First the color is a natural wheat/taupey color that will go great with jeans or black pants, whatever! Also, the texture is nice mimicking a ragged stripe pattern. Finally, this jacket has leather trim, icing on the tasty cake! This jacket is around $438 retail according to people style watch and they claim is it sold at Bloomingdales online but it’s not available yet, so please refer to the generation love website for further purchasing info.

Next, hounds tooth has been a staple on the stylish girl scene and this fall is no exception. Hounds tooth print is graphic, classy and looks awesome in many color schemes but nothing beats black and white. Therefore, this Joe Fresh hounds tooth dress is the bomb dot com for sure. This dress is great because it can be worn with black tights, and a leather jacket for an edgy look or with prim ballet flats and a blazer for work. And at $49 bucks a pop you can’t afford not to have this dress in your closet. Double bonus the brand name “Joe Fresh” is cheeky and hilarious. Snatch this one up quick at JoeFresh.com and check out what else this retailer has to offer while you’re at the site!
Finally, no fall wardrobe update would be complete without a stellar new handbag! My pick is the Suffolk handbag by London Fog. The dome shape is big for fall but personally I like the polished look and the gorgeous color options. In people the bag was a chestnut color that I really like but on the London Fog website the bag was only shown in black which is equally as elegant. For $135 dollars a pop this bag maybe out of your price range but overall an ideal handbag for any chic lady!

I would highly suggest picking up this months people style watch! Photo Credit londonfog.com, Joefresh.com, and Generationlove.com

Fashion Uniforms

This week marks the return of school if you haven’t already started the week earlier. Whether you’re in high school or higher education bound going back to school means summer tans fade away, football games, and a whole new year to make the grade or at least look good while you’re passing the time. Returning to the hallowed halls of any educational institution likely means inspired new fashion or in some cases fashion sense repress. Recently, I have been watching a lot of Gossip Girl, retro high school days for S & B and I got me thinking about school uniforms. True, St. Jude’s private prep school is fiction and clearly the costume designer for Gossip Girl took plenty of liberties in the reality department. But, despite the “loose” dress code the characters of New York’s Upper East Side found their own way to put a spin on the dress code and express themselves. Now typically I would probably break down my favorite looks over the years of Blair and Serena (and honestly don’t rule it out for the future, it sounds like a pretty good idea) but instead it got me thinking about my “uniform”. Whether your realize it or not everyone has their own uniform, a go to look or outfit that we feel most comfortable in, or makes us feel very confident, a look you repeat again and again without really thinking. True, your uniform may vary from season to season and depending on recent trends etc, but here is the breakdown of my uniform!

First and foremost for me a staple is a great pair of jeans. Let’s face it jeans basically go with everything, can be dressed up or dressed down and generally have a “cool” vibe that canvas pants just don’t have. My favorite jeans are seven for all mankind “skinny” in rinse. These jeans are a basic for me because they are slim fitting with just the right amount of stretch for everyday but don’t extend out to another size,  and the rinse is a fairly dark blue that’s flat(no whiskering or fade). The rinse is mid, I don’t like a low rise(muffin top) and high rise is just not versatile for every day. These jeans are like the foundation for many of my personal favorite looks.

The next piece to my uniform is a comfy and interesting tee. Most everyone makes tees but I really like gap and bobi tees. They are always on trend with colors, always soft and usually have a really flattering cut. To get really specific I have an olive green bobi tee with a scoop neck, one pocket tee that draws up a bit on the sides and dips down in the front hem. I love this tee because it looks great with jeans, the hem is the best, it will always cover what needs to be covered and the neckline is pretty open so I can wear my signature necklace or any other necklace. My gap favorite tee has cuffed sleeves, longer hem and is grey with navy stripes that stop at the shoulders. I have worn that top so much it has tiny holes where the censor likely was. I like a basic horizontal stripe shirt; it adds a bit more interest than a plain tee. Also, I like to mix it up with the neckline; v-neck, scoop neck and crew neck all have their benefits and flaws so you should have at least one of each.

Then you have to cover up those feet! For every day I am a ballet flats kind of girl. If I am feeling sporty sneakers, and if I am going out heels but every day is a ballet flats kind of day. Flats just look great with skinny jeans, generally make your feet look small or at any rate elegant. And personally I don’t know about you but every day I do a fair amount of walking, so my shoes need to stay on easily and be somewhat comfy. Unfortunately and fortunately I am not particularly loyal to any one shoe brand but I will say I get most of my shoes from Nordstrom’s or endless.com. Everyone from forever 21 to Kate Spade makes at the minimum one ballet flat and more than likely make a variety. This means you can easily mix and match with daring pattern or color. But when in doubt a plain black flat won’t fail and is really a staple.

Finally, no outfit would be complete without jewelry. Since we are discussing “uniforms” here, the tried and true I will be brutally honest I don’t do wrist jewelry. I always wear earrings and a necklace, and I really like rings but I can go without. With recent trends I am a watch wearer but I never used to. I don’t do wrist jewelry for a number of reasons, first people say its unprofessional because bracelets make noise when you shake hands or type on a keyboard or handprint which truthfully is kind of annoying. Also, I just feel like it’s too much to do rings, bracelet, necklace and earrings, its like did you just escape the gypsy convent? Plus, if you’re doing all that jewelry there’s so much going on nobody will notice how nice your earrings are or how lovely that antique ring is you’re wearing, they will just be like whoa bling, bling, bling! My signature necklace is a Tiffany’s heart my sister gave to me on my 18th birthday and recently I added an “A” pendent given to me for graduation. I may not always love hearts, tiffany’s or the first letter of my moniker (who are you kidding of course I will!) but all of those items mean something to me so I wear them every day. Also, with pierced ears I think it just looks ugly to not put some studs on, so I typically wear this really cool pair of rivets my grandma gave me or some pearls.

So that’s my uniform, typical day to day outfit! What’s your every day look? Do you dress for class or shuffle threw life in yoga pants? Keep your eyes peeled for the Gossip Girl blog post!
