What were you wearing last Thursday?

Shining the spotlight on style, trendsetters, and fashion in terms of the good, the bad and the ugly <3

Thankful for Fashion

Considering last Thursday was thanksgiving I wasn’t out gallivanting around town per usual, so I decided to give thanks to one of my favorite style icons Nicole Richie. Home girl has mastered the whole boho look and I love that no matter what trend or style she is working she never strays too far from her own personal style. True most outfits look incredible on her because of her slim frame and gorgeous skin tone but Nic Richie has style tips everyone can use. For example she’s never afraid to layer and look, from cardigans, scarf’s or silk jackets from her own Winter Kate line. Also, I really like Nicole recycles pieces from one outfit to create another look. This is something us non-celeb millionaires do all the time but when Nicole Richie does it, it makes her style seem accessible and maintainable by the average Jane. With Nicole Richie there are tons of outfits and style statements to pick from but I chose this particular outfit because it speaks to her chic everyday look. This outfit is great for a couple of different reasons, first the scarf. The print is awesome and I know she’ll re-wear it has a headscarf or with another outfit. Also, without the scarf the outfit is pretty plain. That being said all of the “plain” pieces are great staples. A gray cardigan, fitted white knit tee, black skinnies and black flats are pretty much essentials that should be in every woman’s closet. Why? Well cardigans can be reworked and re-worn with jeans, skirts or dresses and are great layering pieces. They can break up an outfit or help a summer dress transition into fall. White tee no brainer. Black skinnies are like regular skinnies except extra flattering in black and black flats go with pretty much everything. For example Nic could switch out the scarf and cardigan for a Winter Kate silk jacket for a totally different feel. I feel like that was barely scratching the surface of why Nicole Richie is wonderful. So this past Thursday among the many fabulous things I am thankful for Nicole Richie! Congrats you made the blog, get it girl!

BlackOut before black friday

With thanksgiving almost here I am thankful for many things, good fashion being one of them! I recently went to a local Boutique Bevello’s holiday fashion show. At the fashion show my friend Courtney’s outfit out shined even the models! Usually I am not a fan of the almost monochrome look but in Courtney makes this almost completely black outfit look chic. Courtney’s rocking a black cowl neck knit sweater, dark jeans and peep toe platform pumps. I think one of the most important elements in this outfit is the jeans are dark but they aren’t true black. If every item of the outfit was true black it would look one big blob. The texture of the jeans and the knit of the sweater break up the slight tonal differences and make the outfit richer. Finally, Courtney completed the outfit with cult worthy Marc Jacobs cross body and Michael Kors tortoise shell watch.  This classy look would be great for dinner out, drinks with friends or even a fashion show J

What I want NOW!

Recently with my fall semester senior year zooming by I find myself living more or less pay check to pay check and buried under mountains of homework. Needless to say less going out, but that doesn’t mean I am lacking fashion! This week without a good social picture to reference I am just going to show you all what I would buy now if I had mad cash and why.
First these Free People pointelle leg warmers are super cute and fun. Now these are better left at home for some fashionista's but I always like a nod to ballet or dance inspired wear. These would look great sneaking out the top of boots or with ballet flats. And at 38 bucks they won't break the bank. In addition if your fashion forward enough to pull these bad boys off you must know your legs must be atleast one shade darker, but the darker the better. No skin cancer fake bake ladies ;)
Second this lace top from Juicy Couture is goregous! It would be great for holiday parties or just a nice bar night. You could also transition this from night to day under a blazer. The model is showing this top with a nice pencil skirt which is a good sophisticated look but this top could easily be worn with skinny jeans and boots, flared jeans and heels, the options are really endless. Also, you could probably remove the velvet belt and try different colored belts and experiment with higher and lower waistlines. Unfortunately black is the only color option for this top but I think its very classic. I found this juicy couture top on shopbop.com for 198.00 so a bit pricer but could definitely be an investment piece because Juicy pieces will last.
The Third piece is an awesome dress from Alice + Olivia. I have recently been catching up on my Gossip Girl and I feel like any of the women on that show would rock this frock. Another reason I would buy this dress if I could would be its form fitting which is nice but it also has wrapping and ruching in just the right spots that are typically women's problem areas. The wrapping across the hips and stomach should hide any lumps or bumps you may have but I would definitely try this dress on first before purchasing :) Also, I love the navy color. Personally, I think navy is a neutral that can be paired with pretty much any color in the rainbow and is really flattering to most skin tones. Plus, this dress should just make your bod look awesome so you can accessorize with a chunky lace and fun statement shoes. And once again the Gossip Girls from the upper east side would add a layer like a blazer or sweater and wear it to work but they don't have real world jobs! Anyways love love this dress, once again I found this Alice + Olivia dress on shopbop for $330.00, so you may have to be a trust fund baby to afford it.
The fourth and final want for the week would be these Lilly Pulitzer wedges. My friends know a wish list would be not be complete with out some Lilly.  I found these wedges on the Lilly Pulitzer website and they are calling them "resort" shoes I am guessing because of the open toe but with the dark brown suede I definitely think these shoes could be worn all fall and in Florida and other tropical temperatures right on into winter. These wedges are great well because their Lilly but they are also just very versatile with brown suede and a dark wedge heel they are basically a neutral. In addition, I love the little gold accent on the button! At 198 its a little pricey but for shoes I would say thats pretty fair, plus its Lilly Pulitzer!

Equestrian Chic

The equestrian look is not for everyone, but this equestrian look is classic and chic. Not only are riding boots big this fall, but this look is appropriate for so many functions. For example Alicia wore this outfit out to a bar but she could easily wear this to most work environments, dinner date or shopping with the girls. Let me break it down why I like this outfit. First and foremost all of the pieces Alicia is wearing are great basics that can easily be transitioned into other outfits. Like the tweed skirt could be worn dressed down with a jean jacket or dressed up with a button up blouse. Also, the blazer Alicia is wearing could be dressed down with skinny jeans and flats or dressed up dress slacks and heels. But back to the outfit being shown, another reason I really like Alicia’s outfit is she picked an asset to show off (her legs) and kept everything else covered up. Too many times you see girls showing arms, cleavage and legs; it’s all just TOO MUCH! Honey he’s not buying the cow if he can get the milk for free. In addition Alicia’s added the best accessories pearl earrings (a girl’s best friend) and a watch. These accessories are perfect because there is already a lot of interest towards her face with the v of the blazer front and the neck tie of the turtle neck a necklace would just be too much. Also, these accessories really speak to the tone of the equestrian look without making her outfit look like a costume. In the end this look isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but those who do attempt the look it’s all about mixing classic and current, so keep it fresh.
