Fall Into Style

My poor sweet little blog how I have neglected you! I know you all will forgive me because I have some major fall fashion to report on! Just recently I had a rather lengthy train ride (an hour to the destination and back) and decided to stock up on new fall magazines, with people style watch being the stand out by far! I always enjoy reading people style watch but some editions are thinner than others, the September issue did not disappoint being almost as thick as a textbook (score!). Undoubtedly this magazine will inspire blogs to come but today I want to discuss my top 3 must have items for this fall, so here it goes …..

First and foremost this maybe boring or repetitive by now but I love a tweed looking jacket. To me they are timeless, elegant, and go with practically everything and I am obsessed. This jacket by Generation Love is AMAZEBALLZ. First the color is a natural wheat/taupey color that will go great with jeans or black pants, whatever! Also, the texture is nice mimicking a ragged stripe pattern. Finally, this jacket has leather trim, icing on the tasty cake! This jacket is around $438 retail according to people style watch and they claim is it sold at Bloomingdales online but it’s not available yet, so please refer to the generation love website for further purchasing info.

Next, hounds tooth has been a staple on the stylish girl scene and this fall is no exception. Hounds tooth print is graphic, classy and looks awesome in many color schemes but nothing beats black and white. Therefore, this Joe Fresh hounds tooth dress is the bomb dot com for sure. This dress is great because it can be worn with black tights, and a leather jacket for an edgy look or with prim ballet flats and a blazer for work. And at $49 bucks a pop you can’t afford not to have this dress in your closet. Double bonus the brand name “Joe Fresh” is cheeky and hilarious. Snatch this one up quick at JoeFresh.com and check out what else this retailer has to offer while you’re at the site!
Finally, no fall wardrobe update would be complete without a stellar new handbag! My pick is the Suffolk handbag by London Fog. The dome shape is big for fall but personally I like the polished look and the gorgeous color options. In people the bag was a chestnut color that I really like but on the London Fog website the bag was only shown in black which is equally as elegant. For $135 dollars a pop this bag maybe out of your price range but overall an ideal handbag for any chic lady!

I would highly suggest picking up this months people style watch! Photo Credit londonfog.com, Joefresh.com, and Generationlove.com

Fashion Uniforms

This week marks the return of school if you haven’t already started the week earlier. Whether you’re in high school or higher education bound going back to school means summer tans fade away, football games, and a whole new year to make the grade or at least look good while you’re passing the time. Returning to the hallowed halls of any educational institution likely means inspired new fashion or in some cases fashion sense repress. Recently, I have been watching a lot of Gossip Girl, retro high school days for S & B and I got me thinking about school uniforms. True, St. Jude’s private prep school is fiction and clearly the costume designer for Gossip Girl took plenty of liberties in the reality department. But, despite the “loose” dress code the characters of New York’s Upper East Side found their own way to put a spin on the dress code and express themselves. Now typically I would probably break down my favorite looks over the years of Blair and Serena (and honestly don’t rule it out for the future, it sounds like a pretty good idea) but instead it got me thinking about my “uniform”. Whether your realize it or not everyone has their own uniform, a go to look or outfit that we feel most comfortable in, or makes us feel very confident, a look you repeat again and again without really thinking. True, your uniform may vary from season to season and depending on recent trends etc, but here is the breakdown of my uniform!

First and foremost for me a staple is a great pair of jeans. Let’s face it jeans basically go with everything, can be dressed up or dressed down and generally have a “cool” vibe that canvas pants just don’t have. My favorite jeans are seven for all mankind “skinny” in rinse. These jeans are a basic for me because they are slim fitting with just the right amount of stretch for everyday but don’t extend out to another size,  and the rinse is a fairly dark blue that’s flat(no whiskering or fade). The rinse is mid, I don’t like a low rise(muffin top) and high rise is just not versatile for every day. These jeans are like the foundation for many of my personal favorite looks.

The next piece to my uniform is a comfy and interesting tee. Most everyone makes tees but I really like gap and bobi tees. They are always on trend with colors, always soft and usually have a really flattering cut. To get really specific I have an olive green bobi tee with a scoop neck, one pocket tee that draws up a bit on the sides and dips down in the front hem. I love this tee because it looks great with jeans, the hem is the best, it will always cover what needs to be covered and the neckline is pretty open so I can wear my signature necklace or any other necklace. My gap favorite tee has cuffed sleeves, longer hem and is grey with navy stripes that stop at the shoulders. I have worn that top so much it has tiny holes where the censor likely was. I like a basic horizontal stripe shirt; it adds a bit more interest than a plain tee. Also, I like to mix it up with the neckline; v-neck, scoop neck and crew neck all have their benefits and flaws so you should have at least one of each.

Then you have to cover up those feet! For every day I am a ballet flats kind of girl. If I am feeling sporty sneakers, and if I am going out heels but every day is a ballet flats kind of day. Flats just look great with skinny jeans, generally make your feet look small or at any rate elegant. And personally I don’t know about you but every day I do a fair amount of walking, so my shoes need to stay on easily and be somewhat comfy. Unfortunately and fortunately I am not particularly loyal to any one shoe brand but I will say I get most of my shoes from Nordstrom’s or endless.com. Everyone from forever 21 to Kate Spade makes at the minimum one ballet flat and more than likely make a variety. This means you can easily mix and match with daring pattern or color. But when in doubt a plain black flat won’t fail and is really a staple.

Finally, no outfit would be complete without jewelry. Since we are discussing “uniforms” here, the tried and true I will be brutally honest I don’t do wrist jewelry. I always wear earrings and a necklace, and I really like rings but I can go without. With recent trends I am a watch wearer but I never used to. I don’t do wrist jewelry for a number of reasons, first people say its unprofessional because bracelets make noise when you shake hands or type on a keyboard or handprint which truthfully is kind of annoying. Also, I just feel like it’s too much to do rings, bracelet, necklace and earrings, its like did you just escape the gypsy convent? Plus, if you’re doing all that jewelry there’s so much going on nobody will notice how nice your earrings are or how lovely that antique ring is you’re wearing, they will just be like whoa bling, bling, bling! My signature necklace is a Tiffany’s heart my sister gave to me on my 18th birthday and recently I added an “A” pendent given to me for graduation. I may not always love hearts, tiffany’s or the first letter of my moniker (who are you kidding of course I will!) but all of those items mean something to me so I wear them every day. Also, with pierced ears I think it just looks ugly to not put some studs on, so I typically wear this really cool pair of rivets my grandma gave me or some pearls.

So that’s my uniform, typical day to day outfit! What’s your every day look? Do you dress for class or shuffle threw life in yoga pants? Keep your eyes peeled for the Gossip Girl blog post!

Socialites, Stripes and Sunnies

Recently with the lack of dress up award shows and just perhaps plain laziness there hasn’t been a certain celeb inspiration for me this week. Instead, I decided to reflect on something that EVERYONE is doing, pinning! Pinterest has become a huge social media phenomenon that is evolving into something bigger with stores selling goods, companies and bloggers alike making their own boards and gathering followers, the limits of pinterest have yet to be defined. I personally jumped on the pinterest train this past spring and have been an avid rider ever since. All pinners will tell you their favorite section of pinterests is the largest like baking, home décor, celebrities, vehicles, photography, nature, etc! But, naturally my favorite is the woman’s fashion section. Here are my top favorite picks!

First, this is one of my favorite looks brought to you by none other than Olivia Palermo. Part socialite, part reality star, part fashionista Olivia Palermo is a bag of interesting. Starting at the top Olivia’s hair is perfection in color and it looks beautifully soft to the touch, just had to say it and her sunnies, cute but plain to compliment the black and white theme of the outfit. Next, the blouse is basically what this outfit is all about. The white collared tie neck blouse is perfection and Olivia pairs it perfectly with a soft cream sweater and loose black shorts. The sweater and shorts are the perfect combo with this blouse because it gives a beautiful but sometimes stuffy looking blouse the ability to transition into casual wear and just look effortless. Clearly, we can’t tell what kind of shoes Miss Palermo is wearing but I am sure they are fabulous!

This next girl maybe supa famous but I have no idea who she is, so for now she’ll be the well dressed model. This outfit is fall/winter perfection because of its layering. The sunnies on top to start are of course great, the tomato-y red jacket is beautiful with great gold buttons and a nice cut that hugs this cute blonde’s body. Under that jacket is the layering magic, a denim shirt or jacket with a striped shirt and big chunky jewelry. YES PLEASE! Everyone knows stripes and chunky jewelry is the way to my heart. With all of that business happening on top of the outfit this girl keeps it simple with staple black skinny pants, and leopard print loafers. Usually I am not a fan of animal prints but in this case it works well. Finally, this outfit is finished out with a brown leather sling bag that is flawless! Unknown cute model you worked that outfit girl!

The final outfit is on yet another gorgeous model and this outfit is just simple elegance. I guess from these models you can tell I really like sunglasses to complete an outfit, also I love this girls pearls! The multi-strand hits at just the perfect length with this crew neck sweater, and the slouchy-ness of this sweater combined with the fitted adorable mini skirt creates a cool, young, but glamorous look. Also, I am not a huge fan of this color yellow on the sweater but it works really well with this girls skin tone, and compliments the tones on her pearls, skirt and clutch. Finally, this dashing young lady completes her look with an on trend oversized boyfriend watch and a charming brown clutch (every girl should own).  A super cute outfit for work, play or evening ;)

Child's Play

It's true Celebrities have lives just like us but with the fabulous factor turned up like 6 notches. So naturally their children have to be on another level also, right? With their outlandish names like Apple and Pilot Inspector, passports that are fuller than most grown adults and inheritances that could feed a small country we common folk pale in comparison. I must admit in a struggling economy these are all things could give us all reasons to be jealous (behold the green eyed monster) but what I envy the most would be THEIR CLOSETS. E! News did a sneak peek inside Skylar Zoe, Rachel Zoe’s son whom at the time wasn’t even born yet and the boy’s stylish wardrobe was filled with Burberry, Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Missoni and Todds!  Skylar aside with his unfair advantage (Hello his mom shops for a living!) here are some of my favorite stylish celeb kids!

Ironically all of my young fashionista’s this week are H names! Must be something in the water?

Harlow Madden is one of my favorite young fashionista’s for many different reasons. First and foremost Nicole Richie openly admits that she gives her children the freedom and creativity to pick out whatever she wants to wear, no matter how crazy Nicole thinks Harlow may look! That means you’re looking at a true original here. Another thing I love is you can tell Harlow’s style has been influenced by Mummy Nicole. The jean jacket is so Nicole and the tutu is a nod to Nicole’s ballerina background as a child, and no doubt Harlow is a “tiny dancer” as well : ) In addition the tights to transition an outfit is something Nicole did with jean shorts in the winter. The sneakers just add a fun element of childhood whimsy and the adorable ruffled headband just says this girl knows how to accessorize. With a Rock-n-Roll papa and a clothing designer for a mother Harlow’s creativity and style should be off the charts, can’t wait to see what she wears next!

Honor Warren has been on my style radar for a minute now but this outfit is four stars. This long sleeve paisley dress is fun in its bright blues shades but the print adds an element of sophisticated chic, like mom Jessica Alba may have a blouse in the same print! The finishing touches of a sling purse with a big fun bow and sweet pink ballet flats just add adorable touches of little girl. It also probably doesn’t hurt that in this photo Honor looks like she is having the most fun EVER, remember ladies happy girls are the prettiest!

Finally, Harper 7 Beckham is truly the up and coming fashionista to watch out for. I know everyone’s been talking about Suri Cruise, well I think she’s played out and I think Harper is IT! To be honest Harper doesn’t have a ton of past outfits to critique one because it’s actually rather difficult to find ugly infant clothes, and two because Harper actually hasn’t been photographed that often thanks to Mom and Dad’s protective measures. But, without a doubt this one of Harper’s cutest outfits to date.  This sweet Burberry dress has its signature brown and taupe’s in an elegant plaid print with some nice thick brown knit tights to keep Harper's little legs warm. Finally, the outfit is finished off with a matching bow in Harper’s baby fine tresses. Sure, Harper didn’t actually pick this outfit out herself but with a mom like Posh Spice you know she will be sure to have her own unique and wonderful style. And just imagine the closet she has to raid when she grows up!
