Socialites, Stripes and Sunnies

Recently with the lack of dress up award shows and just perhaps plain laziness there hasn’t been a certain celeb inspiration for me this week. Instead, I decided to reflect on something that EVERYONE is doing, pinning! Pinterest has become a huge social media phenomenon that is evolving into something bigger with stores selling goods, companies and bloggers alike making their own boards and gathering followers, the limits of pinterest have yet to be defined. I personally jumped on the pinterest train this past spring and have been an avid rider ever since. All pinners will tell you their favorite section of pinterests is the largest like baking, home décor, celebrities, vehicles, photography, nature, etc! But, naturally my favorite is the woman’s fashion section. Here are my top favorite picks!

First, this is one of my favorite looks brought to you by none other than Olivia Palermo. Part socialite, part reality star, part fashionista Olivia Palermo is a bag of interesting. Starting at the top Olivia’s hair is perfection in color and it looks beautifully soft to the touch, just had to say it and her sunnies, cute but plain to compliment the black and white theme of the outfit. Next, the blouse is basically what this outfit is all about. The white collared tie neck blouse is perfection and Olivia pairs it perfectly with a soft cream sweater and loose black shorts. The sweater and shorts are the perfect combo with this blouse because it gives a beautiful but sometimes stuffy looking blouse the ability to transition into casual wear and just look effortless. Clearly, we can’t tell what kind of shoes Miss Palermo is wearing but I am sure they are fabulous!

This next girl maybe supa famous but I have no idea who she is, so for now she’ll be the well dressed model. This outfit is fall/winter perfection because of its layering. The sunnies on top to start are of course great, the tomato-y red jacket is beautiful with great gold buttons and a nice cut that hugs this cute blonde’s body. Under that jacket is the layering magic, a denim shirt or jacket with a striped shirt and big chunky jewelry. YES PLEASE! Everyone knows stripes and chunky jewelry is the way to my heart. With all of that business happening on top of the outfit this girl keeps it simple with staple black skinny pants, and leopard print loafers. Usually I am not a fan of animal prints but in this case it works well. Finally, this outfit is finished out with a brown leather sling bag that is flawless! Unknown cute model you worked that outfit girl!

The final outfit is on yet another gorgeous model and this outfit is just simple elegance. I guess from these models you can tell I really like sunglasses to complete an outfit, also I love this girls pearls! The multi-strand hits at just the perfect length with this crew neck sweater, and the slouchy-ness of this sweater combined with the fitted adorable mini skirt creates a cool, young, but glamorous look. Also, I am not a huge fan of this color yellow on the sweater but it works really well with this girls skin tone, and compliments the tones on her pearls, skirt and clutch. Finally, this dashing young lady completes her look with an on trend oversized boyfriend watch and a charming brown clutch (every girl should own).  A super cute outfit for work, play or evening ;)

Child's Play

It's true Celebrities have lives just like us but with the fabulous factor turned up like 6 notches. So naturally their children have to be on another level also, right? With their outlandish names like Apple and Pilot Inspector, passports that are fuller than most grown adults and inheritances that could feed a small country we common folk pale in comparison. I must admit in a struggling economy these are all things could give us all reasons to be jealous (behold the green eyed monster) but what I envy the most would be THEIR CLOSETS. E! News did a sneak peek inside Skylar Zoe, Rachel Zoe’s son whom at the time wasn’t even born yet and the boy’s stylish wardrobe was filled with Burberry, Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Missoni and Todds!  Skylar aside with his unfair advantage (Hello his mom shops for a living!) here are some of my favorite stylish celeb kids!

Ironically all of my young fashionista’s this week are H names! Must be something in the water?

Harlow Madden is one of my favorite young fashionista’s for many different reasons. First and foremost Nicole Richie openly admits that she gives her children the freedom and creativity to pick out whatever she wants to wear, no matter how crazy Nicole thinks Harlow may look! That means you’re looking at a true original here. Another thing I love is you can tell Harlow’s style has been influenced by Mummy Nicole. The jean jacket is so Nicole and the tutu is a nod to Nicole’s ballerina background as a child, and no doubt Harlow is a “tiny dancer” as well : ) In addition the tights to transition an outfit is something Nicole did with jean shorts in the winter. The sneakers just add a fun element of childhood whimsy and the adorable ruffled headband just says this girl knows how to accessorize. With a Rock-n-Roll papa and a clothing designer for a mother Harlow’s creativity and style should be off the charts, can’t wait to see what she wears next!

Honor Warren has been on my style radar for a minute now but this outfit is four stars. This long sleeve paisley dress is fun in its bright blues shades but the print adds an element of sophisticated chic, like mom Jessica Alba may have a blouse in the same print! The finishing touches of a sling purse with a big fun bow and sweet pink ballet flats just add adorable touches of little girl. It also probably doesn’t hurt that in this photo Honor looks like she is having the most fun EVER, remember ladies happy girls are the prettiest!

Finally, Harper 7 Beckham is truly the up and coming fashionista to watch out for. I know everyone’s been talking about Suri Cruise, well I think she’s played out and I think Harper is IT! To be honest Harper doesn’t have a ton of past outfits to critique one because it’s actually rather difficult to find ugly infant clothes, and two because Harper actually hasn’t been photographed that often thanks to Mom and Dad’s protective measures. But, without a doubt this one of Harper’s cutest outfits to date.  This sweet Burberry dress has its signature brown and taupe’s in an elegant plaid print with some nice thick brown knit tights to keep Harper's little legs warm. Finally, the outfit is finished off with a matching bow in Harper’s baby fine tresses. Sure, Harper didn’t actually pick this outfit out herself but with a mom like Posh Spice you know she will be sure to have her own unique and wonderful style. And just imagine the closet she has to raid when she grows up!

Style Spotlight- Lindsay La Parl

Returning to LTF's fashion roots I want to shine that glittery spotlight on a good friend of mine. I have known her since we were in second grade, and yes I have been envious of her own unique sense of fashion since then! Lindsay is one of those special people who when you see dressed to impress you would think now she can pull that outfit off but most everyone can't (yes be jealous!), but be your own judge and check out Lindz had to say about her own style

STYLE PROFILE

Who? Lindsay Rosalyn La Parl

What? Recent MSU grad, freelance graphic designer and all around fashionista

Where? Lindz can usually be found at Water Street coffee joint or vintage shopping

Why? because a fair amount of people want to be her, that's why

Describe your fashion philosophy - I like to play a character. One day I might be channeling my inner Penny Lane with a fur coat and shades the next I'll be Kelly Kapowski with high waisted jeans, big hair and a bold print top. That is the best part of fashion, you get to play dress up every day!

Current must have items? Anything floral print, studded items, maxi dresses and skirts. Gold, gold and more gold jewelry. Of course my RayBans, I'd wear them inside if I could.

Favorite fashion line or designer? I loveee vintage. My favorite website is Nasty Gal. I really like what Wildfox Couture has been doing as well. I'm not too into labels but if someone wants to send me a buttery soft leather Celine bag I will gladly accept : )

Who are your style icons? Jackie O, Lana Del Rey, Rihanna, Princess Di, Mary Kate Olsen

Worst fashion faux pas? No imagination. Cookie cutter style.

Where do you draw inspiration from? Movies, blogs, vintage styles and pinterest!

Sharing Is Caring

Instead of hearing my opinion on fashion I am going to flip the tables a bit. The best creative minds know inspiration can strike anywhere at any time but colleagues/peers can provide some of the best inspiration. True, I do not consider myself a “power blogger” of any sorts, my most consistent followers typically share genes with me (cough sister and mom) but I do get inspired by other bloggers.

Hey Cutie!
I am mildly obsessed with “Most Eligible Dallas” mostly because of Courtney Kerr!  To my great surprise and delight Courtney rocks her own style blog. Now I wouldn’t wear ever single outfit Courtney blogs about (differences are what makes us better people) but she has also opened my mind to styles and outfits I am not sure I would come up with on my own. The best part about Courtney’s blog is its written in her own her own hilarious voice and she ALWAYS keep its classy, never boarder line trashy.

Check her out at http://thecourtneykerr.com/

Another blog I am diggin at the current moment is the District of Chic. Once again this blog doesn’t totally line up with my style but I always get ideas. Not to mention the blog is updated really often which gives viewers lots of subject matter to chose from. Also, this blog is great because it covers not only fashion but lifestyle with reviews on makeup, perfume and yummy snack recipes.

Who Wears Short Shorts?

Upon review of my more recent blogs I realized August is lacking in holidays, I know sad! I take that back, peach month, national catfish month and water quality month does little to anything to sway or inspire my outfits or sense of style. Considering August is still considered summer, warm in most places still (Maybe Indian Summer?) I declare August shorts month! Sure, I am likely to forget this by next August and most likely there will not be national recognition of this day (some girls may take it too far, you know the same ones that wear 2 band aids and a cork for Halloween!) but for the sake of this blog just roll with it.

These first shorts that I would advise you to wear during national shorts month (August) are cuffed matelot shorts from Forever21. For 19.90 these shorts are a steal, not to mention the navy color is so versatile they can be worn ALL THE TIME! The styling Forever21 has done is a cute look but these shorts could easily go nautical with a striped sweater and ballet flats, causal with a plain v-neck and leather sandals, or even transition into fall with a long sleeve blouse colored tights and booties (my fave look). This high waisted style is bound to be flattering on most all body types but forever21 sizing can be tricky, so if in doubt I would suggest going to your local retailer and trying them on (if you can!). The only real question here is why don’t you own these already?

These next shorts are crochet tap shorts from Nasty Gal! Now I feel like a may have featured this particular shorts twin or cousin (similar short different color) but never the less they are just that essential they deserve to be mentioned twice and at 58 bucks not a bad deal! Now these shorts operate under the same high-waisted look as the shorts above but the inseam on these shorts are noticeably shorter, therefore if you aren’t exactly proud of your legs or thighs then these SHORT shorts aren’t for you. The cream color is superior to white but will go with a lot. True to nasty gals look this outfit is perfection already with patterned sweater with textured shorts make for great visual contrast. Finished off with a leopard print skinny belt, nasty gal styles to perfection but you could rework these shorts with any bright top or bold print; just make sure the hem of the shirt isn’t too long.

Finally, these last shorts are French Connection floral print shorts for sale on shopittome.com for 82.60. These shorts are the smaller version of a big trend going on right now floral print jeans! These shorts are girly and refined with a hidden zipper, and linen material you may feel inclined to skip threw the park and drink out of fancy glasses. These shorts could be paired with many different blouses, solid knit sweaters or kept simple with a t-shirt. Although I feel like these shorts MUST be worn with some fabulous heels or wedges, I think a pair of classic sandals would suit them just fine too! Very cute shorts for very cute girls!

So go celebrate short month by showing off your pins!

ALL NIGHT LONG

Check out some of my older posts and you'll quickly realize I may or may not have a girl crush on Nicole Richie or Nic as I like to refer to her (because we are totes on a first name basis). I think its undeniable since Miss Richie stepped on the scene as Paris Hilton's sharp tongued accomplice shes had her own stamp on the fashion arena. Today she is the proud owner and creator of House of Harlow 1960 and Winter Kate named after her sweet daughter Harlow Winter Kate Madden : ) While I could probably talk for hours about each of these lines (the sunglasses, the jewelry, the shoes, THE CLOTHES) I will instead focus on Nic's more recent fashion choices!

This outfit Nicole recent wore on the panel for Design Star and I am really loving it. First this is a dress but the shape of the top creates the illusion of a top and a bottom or in essence dividing the body! This is very smart because nobody should like like one big shapeless blob, hence dividing your body into separate sections that suit you the best depending on your body shape. Next, I love the neutral beige color of this dress. Nicole really has one of the best skin tones to pull this off, ideally your skin should be lighter or darker than any flesh tone, you don't want to appear NAKED(or maybe you do, but that's your thing not mine). The dress is adorned with giant sparkle rivets spaced perfectly across the garment creating a print. With all of this sparkle Nic is so wise to not wear any large jewelry, if you notice shes barely wearing any at all(just a few gorgeous rings). Finally, your run of the mill fashion follower would probably pair this dress with nude, black or another neutral shoe, not Nic! Nicole rocks turquoise snake skin pumps, which maybe a risk for some but just another skip threw the park for Nicole! Not to mention snake skin is a huge trend right now, classier than zebra, more refined than leopard, basically the best new neutral! It would only be fitting a fashion judge rock the best outfits but Nic doesn't play it safe, she continues to dance to her own chic drummer, perhaps played by her musician hubby?

This next outfit only Nicole Richie could ensemble. The the average girl this outfit seems straight forward but Nic truly creates layers of unexpected cool. First and foremost only Nicole Richie could take polka dots which would stir up feelings of girly-ness, youth, perhaps tea parties and Minnie mouse, and turn them into edgy, rock and roll. From head to toe Miss Richie starts when an appropriate topper! I am loving the red hat, it could appear costume-y with the wrong outfit but Nic does it right. Paired with layered chic jewelry, quite possibly mixing her own line with other designers. Nic wears a staple black blazer over a polka dot tunic, making her layering seem effortless. Finally, Miss Richie rocks some black skinnies, and personally I can't tell if they are a leather or wax coated denim. Regardless, they give off a rocker vibe that is unexpected with a polka dot top. Minimal color provides drastic contrast and really allows the red hat to pop. Overall, one of the coolest outfits to pick apart, Rock on Miss Richie!

WHAT THE SWELL?

Happy Tuesday every body! I have to admit I have been feeling pretty uninspired recently, and low and behold inspiration came in my mailbox today in the form of the Swell fall 2012 catalog. If you've read my blog before you know I love a print catalog more than anything, and this Swell fall catalog doesn't disappoint. Swell has always had a beach-y surfer kind of vibe, so if you can't hang ten (or pretend to on weekends) this may or may not be for you! Here are my favorite looks

This Jarlo Jenna dress is shutting it down! Although I tend to stay away from the general "babydoll" dress form because I am an adult woman whom doesn't want to look anything close to a doll, this dress is all about the styling. Swell does it nicely with rough combat looking boots, and I would suggest scrunched socks peaking out the top, with a more structured jacket and maybe a topper if your feeling bold. Regardless, of the extras this dress is incredible because of its contrast of sweet and wild. The print portion of the dress could be a nod to animal prints or dots depending on your personal preference is well balanced but the sheer  plaquet that goes to a crew neck and ends in dainty puff sleeves. This dress is definitely for a fashionista and requires some attitude, not for the faint of heart.

The next item that's a must on my Swell Fall preview must list are these Hurley 81 skinny legging. These pants may not be cutting edge but I would consider them a fall must. I would predict colored pants making their way into the fall wardrobes everywhere and these raspberry colored pair would suit me nicely! They would pair great with a chambray shirt, black piped blazer or navy and cream striped sweater, whatever your style these colored jeans are a must for fall.

The last stand out item I am loving in the SWELL fall preview is this Insight Colab cable crew neck sweater. I love its over sized look, curved hem, orange/tomato color and its nod to classic cable knit sweaters of the past. This sweater's color definitely makes a statement and although you would think of a cable knit crew neck sweater as stuffy, its actually the opposite with a breezy vibe. Although the model has worn this sweater with cut offs, this sweater would look great with a maxi skirt, skinny jeans, and leggings! Very cute, fall must!
Lastly check out swell for all of their new fall clothes, including their own "Swell" line of clothing, your bound to find something breezy, fun and effortless to add to your clothing collection :)

TEAM SATS- Healy/Folden Edition

If you've been keeping up your not only aware of the fab girl group "The Saturdays" but you know I am big fan! The Sats are made up of Vanessa White, Frankie Sanford, Rochelle Wiseman, Mollie King (previously covered) and sweet Miss Una Healy. Una recently married footballer Ben Foden, and looked gorgeous but I am not sure if its Healy any more . . . . .? Regardless, this Auburn haired Irish fashion goddess is not only a pop superstar, wife but also mother to precious Aoife Belle. Here are some of my favorite looks!

This first look is a causal playsuit Una is wearing, with over sized sunnies. First, the cut of this playsuit is very flattering to Miss Healy's petite figure. I also really like the girly print and ruffle combo, this maybe a bit too much for some but Una accessorized this romper perfectly with a simple necklace and sunnies. The feminine print of this playsuit seems brighter in the pinks but but subdued in overall color which really plays well with Una's natural skin tone. Finally, some may say over sized sun glasses are a thing of the past but Una's frame's are a fun octagonal shape with side embellishments which to me make them quirky and unique. In this picture we aren't aware of what kind of footwear Miss Healy/Foden is rocking but I would suggest a fun wedge! Keeping it causal and classy, we like it Una!

This next look is another great causal look for any woman but Una is stylish and pregnant in this photograph! It appears that Una really likes to play with fun prints and this tunic is no exception. This blue and purple multicolored tunic or dress has an amazing one of a kind print with sweet ruffles and lace on the bottom hem. Una paired this cool top with comfy and slimming black leggings, and ballet flats. Una is practicing an IMPORTANT rule with leggings so listen up ladies! When wearing leggings no matter how cute you think your legs or butt are the top you wear with your leggings must cover AT LEAST half of your backside if not completely cover your tush!  Una is rocking the high-low hem trend so I can easily tell from this photograph that her butt is covered! Finally Una completes her look with some elegant simple mid length layering necklaces. This outfit would be comfy chic for any lady but super stylish for those with a bun in the oven, well done Miss Healy!

This final look I like of Una's is a causal summer look! Una rocks a plain black tank with patterned shorts for an easy but stylish summer look. If anything this outfit goes to show you don't need to layer or put a ton of items on to look effortlessly cool, especially in sticky summer months. While the black tank is a basic every girl should have in her wardrobe the shorts are what really make this outfit. I really like these shorts because they are a really fancy sophisticated print that looks like it could be a beautiful tapestry or table cloth but they are printed on a canvas or denim like material mixing high end with causal and very wearable fabrics. Una rocks a few dainty bracelets and classic black sunglasses to complete her look. Once again we can't tell what kind of shoes shes wearing but you could really pair many footwear choices with this look, like classic black sandals, gladiators, a strappy wedge, this outfit leaves a lot of choices for the wearer. Looking effortless in the summer with a cool treat, what could be better?

While Una is a beautiful woman with her own unique and wonderful sense of style, I figured I would leave you with the up-and-coming fashionista in the making Miss Aoife Belle! Suri watch your back!
striking a pose!
